Viewers not at home with sex scene

THE ABC comedy At Home with Julia was a flub that offended most demographics and demeaned the Prime Minister.

These were the findings of a UMR Research poll, which concluded the series ''crossed the line'' by showing Julia Gillard and her partner, Tim Mathieson, in a sex scene with an Australian flag.

''Talk to most people and, unsurprisingly, they will tell you that At Home with Julia is not funny,'' UMR's managing director, John Utting, said. ''And, unsurprisingly, people are strongly of the belief that the program demeans women - and women are far more likely to think this.''

The poll of 1000 people late last month found 48 per cent felt the sex scene demeaned the Prime Minister, while 40 per cent felt it did not. Labor and Greens voters felt most strongly that it had.
